Welcome to the Barrington School District

August 20, 2020

Dear Barrington Families,

During the past several months, a committee of parents, teachers, Board of Education members, administrators and our maintenance staff have worked diligently planning and preparing for a safe and healthy reopening of schools for our students and staff.  In July, our committee developed a hybrid-learning reopening plan which was shared with the community. The plan was developed following the guidelines published by the NJ DOE, using recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Health.

However, since that time things have significantly changed. As schools began to reopen across the nation we have started to learn about instances where positive test results have led to the reclosing of these schools. In response to this unfortunate situation, the New Jersey Department of Education updated its guidelines which now allow school districts to begin the year in a fully remote capacity while meeting the Governor’s minimum expectations.

In order to ensure that we meet these established minimum standards for the opening of schools, such as social distancing, safety, and to have an adequate number of staff members to implement our plan, the Barrington School District will be requesting approval from the New Jersey Department of Education to begin the 2020-2021 school year 100% remotely with a tentative date to begin our hybrid model on November 9, 2020.

During this time of fully remote learning, the virtual live lessons planned for this period will be implemented and will be delivered in a much more effective manner. The instruction will be designed to increase student engagement while at the same time hopefully be easier for parents/guardians to follow. A set daily schedule will be forthcoming from our teachers so that you as parents/guardians can plan accordingly. Technology needs and/or repairs will be available and conducted during this period of time.

As in similar fashion as last year, our remote learning website is the place to go to find all of the latest information and resources available.  This website can be accessed through a link on the district website, www.barringtonschools.net.
In closing, we fully understand and have empathy in regards to the monumental demands this change places on the families of our community. No one wants our students to return back to school more than us as school is where they belong. But we must do so in a manner which is safe for our students and staff.

The Barrington School District is thrilled to continue our
1:1 Chromebook initiative.  All students in grades K-8 will be provided with a Chromebook device, which is similar to a laptop.  Students in grades 2-8 will be issued a Chromebook for use inside and outside of school.  Students in grades K & 1 will utilize Chromebooks in their classrooms.  Parents and students will be required to read, sign and return the "Student Chromebook Guidelines" usage agreement before a parent can pick up their child's Chromebook.  No Chromebooks will be issued without this completed paperworkAgain, please be sure you have brought your completed usage agreement form, signed by both you and your child.  The agreement can be found on the last page of this packet.  After you pick up your Chromebook, it should be kept in the case that it was given to you in, at all times. Students should be using this case to bring it back and forth to school.   Chargers should be left at home, and used to charge the Chromebook each night.

Applications for Free/Reduced Meals can be submitted via the Parent Portal at http://www.barringtonschools.net/parentportal.   If you are unable to complete the application online, a paper packet may be picked up at your child’s school or access here.  Click here to view detailed directions on how to complete the application online.

During times of non remote learning, school hours for both Avon and Woodland are from 8:35 AM until 3:05 PM.  Students should not arrive before 8:25 AM.
